Ask Alegra: Overcoming POCD
Do you struggle with persistent, unwanted, intrusive sexual thoughts and images about kids that torment you? Are you filled with doubt about yourself, your intentions, and what you are capable of? Do you know that you’re not a pedophile but doubt yourself because of how real OCD feels (the visceral images, groinal responses, “command” thoughts, etc.)? Are you worried that your identity has changed?
Do you fight with these scary thoughts and perform compulsion after compulsion to make sure nothing bad happens? Are you spending your days compulsively avoiding children (even your own), checking your bodily sensations and feelings to prove the obsessions wrong, replacing “bad” thoughts with “good” thoughts, avoiding sex and intimacy because you worry an intrusive thought will arise during? Do you feel immense guilt and shame because of these thoughts that are out of your control?
If so, this workshop is for YOU!
In the hour presentation, we will address:
Common POCD obsessions and compulsions
Evidence-based treatment for OCD (specifically as it relates to POCD obsessions)
Unwanted “urges,” intrusive images, “command” thoughts
Unwanted arousal and POCD
POCD vs. Pedophilia
Doubt vs. Uncertainty (and why it’s not always necessary to accept uncertainty to recover from OCD)
Mindfulness/Acceptance skills
My POCD story
And more!
The first hour is a presentation and the last 30 minutes of the workshop is comprised of a Q&A.
The workshop will be held virtually (via Zoom) on Saturday, November 8, from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm EST. You do not have to attend live. Everyone who purchases a ticket will receive a copy of the workshop recording.
